Permissions - Folder access via server domain groups

I am creating a school website with the CMS for it available to the staff, the problem with the old site was no one used it so to make it simple i want to use their usernames and passwords from the school network.

i can get it to let me in but no one else
there is a group i want to give access to 'PAI All Teaching Staff Teachers'
but i dont want access given to 'PAI Students'

i have messed with Digest and Basic with only partial success

any help would be really appreciated

Is this a site operating with IIS? Is the directory setup to use Windows authentication vice Anonyomous?

Is this on an Active Directory network? Is the web server apart of a different domain than the ones the users log in to? If so, is there a trust setup between to the two domains to allow users to login to their domain and access the web server?
