2 mirrored web servers... on other sides of the world.

Hi,

I currently have a dedicated web server which is hosted somewhere in America. However, although people accessing it from America will get fast response times, I fear that other people living elsewhere won't. I live in the UK and the ping time to my server is 251ms with about 25 hops on the average route. This is obviously making the connection a bit sluggish for people here in the UK, so I was thinking about buying a dedicated server package hosted in the UK as well as keeping the American web hosting package that I’ve already got.

The idea is that I mirror these 2 servers so that they somehow synchronise themselves with each other, thus hosting 2 identical websites (i.e. mirrored websites). Is this even possible with the added complexity of databases etc.? If not, how do websites like Google achieve the same goals with their UK, American, Chinese etc. servers?

Thanks!

IMO, you need to check with your Datacentre about the lapse time on your dedicated server and the connection speeds as well before moving to a UK based server.

Yes I agree the person to talk to is your datacenter. They will tell you if it is possible and the advantages and disadvantages and how it can be setup. And more importantly how much it will cost
