Using router for web hosting.
My ISP provides dynamic IP address.
I am using Linksys 8 port router (BEFSR81-CA). There are 8 computers hooked up with internet through this router. One of them is mine. I created my own home page in this computer and I would like to use my computer as a web server so that my website can be viewed anywhere from the world. I am very new in networking field so could anyone help me to solve this problem. |

Well if your running Windows the simpliest thing would be to install Personal Web Server (pws) or Internet Information Services (iis) (depending on the version of windows you are running) from the Windows CD.
Then setup your router to forward requests on port 80 (Default webserver port) to your computer on the LAN. To do this you will need give you computer a static ip on the LAN so you can specify this on the router. I'd start of by getting PWS or IIS setup on your machine and testing it works by going to http://localhost then look at getting it working through your router so that anyone can view your site. |
